A local church has started a GoFundMe page after one of their young congregants was seriously injured Monday morning in Steinbach.

Tara Schellenberg of Stonehouse Covenant Church says their pastor, Shannon Friesen, was one of the first ones called to the scene to support the family of the injured child.

‘We've just been rallying around them to support in any way we can during this time.”

On Monday at approximately 8:45am, Steinbach RCMP responded to a collision involving a school bus and pedestrian near the Steinbach Regional Secondary School bus loop.  STARS air ambulance was dispatched to the scene and transported a young girl to the Children's Hospital in Winnipeg in critical condition.

Schellenberg confirms that a six-year-old girl was run over by a bus.

“We know she was walking to school when she was hit, then airlifted to Winnipeg. She then underwent a day of surgery and is now in stable condition, and that's what we know.”

Schellenberg notes there have been a lot of people who have come forward asking how they can help.

“We've had people just from the community touched by the story, obviously when it's a six-year-old, I think the whole community kind of feels responsible for helping out if they can. And so, we set up a GoFundMe page, so that if people feel they would like to donate to the family, they are going to be having a lot of extra expenses coming up, just commuting to Winnipeg and all that that entails, and she's got a long road of recovery ahead of her. So, right now, that's a very tangible way that people can help out.”

From Stonehouse Covenant Church social media page.

"Friends, you may have heard of the terrible bus-pedestrian accident that happened in our community yesterday. The 6-year-old child involved is part of the Stonehouse family. We have created a GoFundMe to help the Myran family with medical costs and loss of wages during this extremely difficult time for their family.

Please share this fundraiser and consider donating. Every bit helps! They are so grateful for the support from their community."
