After months of construction, Loewen Boulevard has finally been fully reopened to two-way traffic.

Construction began in mid-July and it was initially expected to wrap up in late August, however, crews ran into some issues that slowed the project down.

Last week, City of Steinbach Engineer Aaron Rach said the contractor was planning to complete the road restoration paving over the weekend and then reopen the area to two-way traffic by the end of the day on Wednesday.

As anticipated, most of that work was completed and by Thursday morning Loewen Boulevard was reopened to two-way traffic between Walnut Street and Hespeler Street. That said, the stretch between Hespeler Street and Old Tom remained open to westbound traffic only throughout the morning before being opened up mid-day.

Rach says freezing temperatures delayed the landscaping restoration work east of Hespeler, which is why it took the extra day.

He notes there will be no further closures related to this sewer extension project.
