Four months after purchasing the vacated Niverville Hydro building, town council has decided to sell the property.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says the decision to sell stems from their recent purchase of the old Horizon Livestock building. He notes when they purchased the Hydro building, the plan was to use that property for a town office, fire hall, or public works building. He says the Horizon Livestock building better serves the needs of the town but was not available when they purchased the Manitoba Hydro property back in May.

"We received notification from the municipal board that our purchase of 329 Bronstone [Horizon Livestock] for the purpose of it being an administrative and other municipal building has been approved by them. It is not finalized yet because we have to give second and third reading for it which we will be doing on the second of October but based on the fact that we have approval from the municipal board, the building that we purchased, being Manitoba Hydro, is now deemed to be excess."

Dyck says council could have held onto the property as an asset but instead has decided to liquidate it and use those funds to back other projects such as the purchase of the Horizon Livestock building. He notes council has moved to declare the old Hydro building as surplus. The request for proposal is being sent out and will close on October 11.
