The Mayor-elect in St. Pierre says they have not had an actual election race in 12 years and based on the latest slate of candidates for council, make it 16.

Raymond Maynard is currently a councillor in St. Pierre and will slide over to the mayor's chair come October 25th. He along with incumbent councillors Francine Roy and Paul Gauthier have been elected by acclamation but that leaves two unfilled seats on council with no new candidates to fill them. Maynard says they will now have to appoint two people from the community to fill those positions.

Normally all the positions have always been filled," notes Maynard who says this is quite a unique situation. "From now until October 25, we are going to try and see if we can find somebody and hopefully come October 25, we’ll have a couple of people that are good that are willing to take on the task of helping us make the town grow and prosper."

Maynard notes they will have to sit down as council along with other community leaders to determine who would best be suited to fill the two vacant positions. "Everybody knows everybody in a small town so you start thinking; who's done a lot for the town, who has the town at heart, who's always trying to promote the town and make the town better," explains Maynard, "that's who we need on council."

Maynard is not quite sure why no other names have come forward in the race for council. He says it could either be the community is pleased with council, maybe the people of St. Pierre are not interested in politics or they did not know how to get involved.
