Steinbach RCMP have issued another reminder of a scam that is circulating related to Revenue Canada.

Many local residents are getting phone calls again from someone claiming to work for Revenue Canada, advising of unpaid taxes that must be paid immediately or a warrant for their arrest will be issued. The caller will ask for payment through different methods such as Money Transfer via MoneyGram, Western Union, a financial institution or through the purchase of iTune cards, Visa or Mastercard or even Bitcoin.

Police say if you receive such a call, you should immediately hang up. In some instances, a voice mail is left on your phone asking you contact them immediately. Police say do not call back.

If anyone actually owes Revenue Canada money, they will be contacted by mail with a notice of payment.

If you have suffered a financial loss, you may report to the police if you wish to do so. If you have not provided personal information or suffered a financial loss, you can report the call directly to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
