The Reeve for the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie says there are mixed emotions when it comes to the 30 km/hr zone on Principale Street.

Lewis Weiss says, from what he has heard, people are finding themselves looking at the speedometre to try and keep the low speed rather than watching the road for children. He notes other concerns include people disregarding the reduced speed zone and being an inconvenience for trucks which use the street as part of their normal route.

"I think the bottom line is enforcement," says Weiss. "We don't have our own police department so it's somewhat up to the residents. When they notice somebody is speeding if they would take the license number and make a phone call to the RCMP and report it. If it's the same situation over and over again, with the same vehicle, eventually I would assume that would be dealt with in a different way."

He adds there was also a request to have Normandeau Bay reduced to 30 km/hr, however, council is not authorized to change the speed on that entire street and will discuss ways to reduce speeding concerns including more stop signs or speed bumps.

Weiss says this topic will continue to be a discussion among council as to what the next steps are.
