A man from Winnipeg died Sunday after his canoe capsized in Whiteshell Provincial Park.

Whitemouth RCMP received a report at 7:55 pm of a drowning at Meditation Lake. Police say a passerby had located an injured adult female on the shore. The female told the passerby that her husband was missing.

Officers attended immediately.

The investigation has determined that the 58-year-old female was canoeing with her 61-year-old husband. There was high wind and cooler temperatures on the lake when the canoe capsized.

Police say the female was able to swim to shore. The male was located deceased in the water by officers. Police say it appears he drowned. An autopsy will be conducted.

Both individuals, from Winnipeg, were wearing lifejackets when the canoe capsized.

The female remains in hospital.
