One patient was transported to hospital in Winnipeg by STARS Air Ambulance following a collision on Highway 52 shortly before 1 Wednesday afternoon.

Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe has provided an update, noting there were two vehicles involved in the collision just west of Mitchell at the intersection of Highway 52 and Road 29 East.

“Both of the vehicles had single occupants with injuries to both. One was transported via STARS and the second was transported by ground ambulance. We had the highway closed for just under an hour. The highway has been reopened and our crews have cleared the scene.”

There are very few details available regarding the severity of the injuries suffered, however, Steinbach RCMP Staff Sergeant Guy Landreville describes the injuries sustained by the the individual transported by STARS as serious.

Regarding the nature of the collision, Wiebe adds “It appeared to be a rear end, but the RCMP are investigating the cause and the conditions.”

Wiebe says traffic was being rerouted on Highway 206 and surrounding gravel roads while emergency crews were tending to the collision.

Traffic is now flowing as normal on Highway 52.
