A truss manufacturing company will be relocating within the Rural Municipality of Hanover.

Community Truss is based out of Carberry. However, they have been operating out of a site in Blumenort.

On Wednesday, Isaiah Hofer and Lowell Hofer appeared before Hanover Council, requesting permission for conditional use approval in order to relocate.

The Hofers say their lease at their current site in Blumenort ends later this year. Their desire is to build a 16,000-square-foot shop on the west side of Highway 12, just north of Steinbach.

According to Hanover Planning Manager Jeremy Neufeld, the site currently contains LMS AG Equipment on the north end. The proposed shop would be constructed on the south end of the site. Access would then be obtained by the Highway 12 service road.

The site is currently zoned Agriculture Limited. Neufeld explains that light manufacturing is listed as a conditional use in the zoning bylaw and that the applicant wishes to subdivide the property in the future.

The Hofers say they currently employ about a half dozen people and they are hoping to grow the business.

Hanover Council was unanimous in approving the application.

There was no one at the public hearing to speak against the request, and Reeve Jim Funk says the municipality has not received any correspondence from the public in opposition.

Funk stresses that the approval given on Wednesday is strictly for the conditional use application and has nothing to do with a potential subdivision in the future.

The Hofers told Council that worst case scenario, even if the subdivision will not be approved in the future, they will still be able to operate.

Blumenort Councillor Roberto Hiebert told the applicants that he is glad to see this get the necessary approval, noting he is happy to see this operation remain in the municipality.
