The rain this past weekend is a good thing for our plants. From Friday night through early Monday morning we received 46mm of rain.  Duayne Friesen of the Lawn and Garden Journal on AM 1250 says the plants need a lot of moisture right now to strengthen their roots before going dormant for the winter.  This is a good time to take care of perennial dividing and transplanting however, we should wait a couple of weeks before we move trees and shrubs.  Friesen says toward the end of September we should be able to safely move the trees after they've lost all their leaves.  Then it will be time to do some soil work.
