Third quarter building permits continue to indicate steady growth in the Town of Ste Anne.

John Desrochers Operations Manager says this year they are at about 40 housing starts with a good mix of single and multi-family homes. He expects that rate to continue into the last quarter as well.

"Currently, our starts are very steady. For the year we’re at just under $14,000,000 in building permits and for this quarter we are at $4,700,000. This year has been on par for the last three, it’s remained steady for the whole season so far. We foresee a very even keel finish to this year and it should fall into that $4,000,000 range again."'

According to the last census, Desrochers says the population in Town of Ste Anne is approximately 2,300 which would be an increase of about 700 from the previous census. He notes they are planning for the future in terms of waterworks and waste management.

"So the town’s been looking at those issues for a few years now so we’re working on a plan on increasing our capacity as far as our lagoon is concerned. We look to have this stuff finalized in the next couple years."

Desrochers adds annexation hasn't taken place in the Town of Ste Anne in quite a few years but hopes there would be good cooperation with neighbouring municipalities when that time comes.
