Fire in the community of Sandilands Wednesday night gave residents a bit of a scare.
Piney Deputy Fire Chief Ivan Mattson says the call came in around 6:30pm for a grass and brush fire along the tracks in the town. He feels the fire was possibly caused by CN Rail crews who were grinding the rails the night before and explains a fire during this dry period is a big risk to homes and property in the area. A forestry helicopter with water bucket had put out much of the fire before they arrived and some local men volunteered to help his team control the blaze. The fire burned about an acre before it was finally put out.
