The Ste. Anne Aces are one win away from repeating as South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champions. Matt Bailey scored the go-ahead goal 11 minutes into the third period as the Aces defeated the Warren Mercs 4-1 Wednesday night in Ste. Anne and now lead the best-of-seven final three games to none. Cody Fowlie, who opened the scoring for the Aces with a shorthanded goal midway through the opening frame, completed his hat trick by scoring a pair of goals 30 seconds apart late in the third. James Maxwell had the lone goal for the Mercs at 11:38 of the first period. Game four goes Saturday night in Warren.


Stephanie Jacob scored her second goal of the game in double overtime to lift the Winnipeg Ice to a 3-2 victory over the Westman Wildcats in game one of the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League final at the Hockey for All Centre Wednesday night. Meg Farmer also scored for the Ice. Erica Stutsky and Shayla Scinocca replied for the Wildcats. Westman netminder Danica Averill made 41 saves while Ice goaltender Laura Melizza stopped 25 shots. Game two in the best-of-five series goes Saturday afternoon in Hartney. 


The Manitoba Moose dropped a 4-1 decision to the Grand Rapids Griffins at Canada Life Centre. Jeff Malott notched the lone goal for the Moose. Griffins netminder Sebastian Cossa stopped 32 shots. 


Ottawa and Toronto were winners Wednesday night in the PWHL. Emerance Maschmeyer made 26 saves in recording the shutout as Ottawa blanked New York 3-0. Renata Fast and Natalie Spooner scored third period power play goals as Toronto won its 11th straight 2-1 over Boston.


The Provincial Senior Men's & Provincial Senior Women's Curling Championships begin today at the Heather Curling Club in Winnipeg. Dave Boehmer of Petersfield and Joelle Brown of Fort Rouge are the defending champions. 


Colton Lott & Kadriana Lott finished the round robin in first place in Pool D with a 7-0 record at the 2024 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The three-time Manitoba champions defeated Jocelyn Peterman & Brett Gallant 8-5 and Jennifer Armstrong & Tyrel Griffith 8-3. Lott & Lott will meet either Lisa Weagle & John Epping or Nancy Martin & Steve Laycock in the quarterfinals. 


Rachel Homan has clinched a playoff spot at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Homan, vice-skip Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew and lead Sarah Wilkes defeated Miyu Ueno of Japan 7-2 and Dilsat Yildiz of Turkey 9-5. The Canadian champions are 8-0 and will face Liisa Turmann of Estonia (1-7) and Jessica Smith of New Zealand (1-7) today.
