Plans are in the works in St. Adolphe for 30-unit, 55-plus, housing development. The project is planned at 420 Main Street, which is the former site of the personal care home and, before that, the convent. Ritchot Mayor Chris Ewen says they held a public hearing for the project on Wednesday evening.

"We had a full house for the public hearing for this 55-plus concept on Main Street in St. Adolphe. There were positive responses and positive remarks. We did have a few concerns in regards to losing some commercial space on Main Street. But, it is already zoned Residential-General from what was there before, the old convent, so we wanted to maintain that feel on that lot. All-in-all, people were very positive and happy to see that we're pushing through with some of the senior-living concepts that we were looking into earlier."

Ewen says Ritchot council is now proceeding with final approvals for the project and is hopeful that the developer will start working on it this spring.

"Council is very excited and we're hoping that they are aggressive with this because we know that there is definitely a need as soon as possible. I'd like to say that by spring, we'll be seeing plans and some real concrete work put into place.

The housing proposal would see the building include 14 larger units of 1,200 square feet and 16 smaller units of 660 square feet.
