A Steinbach resident is facing charges in Kenora following an arrest that stemmed from the report of a stolen vehicle. 

On Wednesday, October 11th at approximately 7:45 PM, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police, Kenora Detachment responded to an incident involving a stolen vehicle in the City of Kenora. Police were able to locate the vehicle a short time later and initiated a traffic stop. 

Through investigation, it was determined that the occupants of the stolen vehicle were in possession of suspected methamphetamine and other items associated with drug trafficking. 

As a result, 29-year-old Zachary Giesbrecht from Steinbach, has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with: 

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine 
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Other Drugs 
  • Obstruct Peace Officer 
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order - Other Than to Attend Court 

In addition, 33-year-old Laura Dumas from Winnipeg has been arrested and charged with: 

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine 
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Other Drugs 
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order - Other Than to Attend Court 

Both of the accused are being held in custody.

Dumas is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on Friday, October 13th. Giesbrecht is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on Monday, October 16th.
