After three years in their current location, members of the Steinbach branch of the Royal Canadian Legion have decided to move into a different space, out of the downtown area.

President Bill Richards says this move has been in the works for a while now.

“This office space for us on Main just didn't really work well for us because it was really difficult for people to know where we were and to walk in,” he says. “But we knew this was temporary. For the past two years, I've been working very hard to try and find a new home for us.”

This spring, the Steinbach Legion will move its office into the Pat Porter Active Living Centre

Richards says this location makes sense because they are already very familiar with the centre.

“We started to rent space at Pat Porter for large meetings and of course as everyone knows, for the Remembrance Day service. As we rented more and more space from Pat Porter, and had more activities there for the Legion, I felt it was time to maybe consider, why don't we try to find our home there going forward?”

Richards says he is already getting the office packed up for the move.

“We will have an office space on the second floor,” he notes. “Our meetings will be held on the main floor. We will have some signage out front.”

Richards says the current space on Main Street was always seen as temporary, and after three years, he is excited about this move.

“It’s actually a really good fit for us,” he says. “A lot of our Legion members go to Pat Porter regularly anyway to participate in other programs.”

Richards appreciates working with the Pat Porter Active Living Centre. He recognizes that space is in high demand and is very grateful for the permanent office space there.
