Work on the document started after a group of developers raised allegations that city councillors have access to inside information on land deals. Councillor Art Rempel says the bylaw provides a very general response to a specific issue. He feels the city should focus specifically on development, not on generalities. Councillors Dwight Reimer, David Banman and Anne Friesen say the document does not go far enough because it contains no mechanism to handle complaints or for councillors to defend themselves. Elbert Toews feels there is no need for a dispute-handling mechanism. Chris Goertzen calls the bylaw a good first step.
