The food bank in Ste. Anne distributes more than food.

Board member Suzanne Ritchot says they recognize that literacy is important, and they want to encourage children to read.

“We have a new Little Library, it’s new for us and it seems popular already,” she says. “It’s filled with children’s books, in French and English.”

The Little Library was installed on the outside of the food bank on Centre Street.

Ritchot says their volunteers are passionate about supporting literacy among children.

“One of our volunteers does fundraising through the year to raise funds to buy new books for the children, so that at Christmas time, they all get a little book bag with books, pencils, and stuff in it, and snacks.”

Ritchot says they are always looking at the needs that families have and then brainstorming ways to help.

She notes the Little Library is already a busy place on days when people come to pick up food hampers. The children are excited to see what’s in the library, she says.
