The Carillon Sultans and Elmwood Giants play a doubleheader tonight at Koskie Field. The Sultans and Giants share top spot in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League with identical 11-2 records. It's the start of a busy week for Carillon as the Sultans will also face the defending champion St. Boniface Legionaires at Whittier Park on Friday and then play a twinbill against the Interlake Blue Jays Sunday at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes three-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night at Blue Cross Park. The Gary SouthShore RailCats defeated the Fish 1-0. RailCats’ starter Peyton Long pitched allowed just three hits over seven innings and struck out three. Nate Alexander retired the Goldeyes in order in the bottom of the ninth. Winnipeg starter Landen Bourassa took a perfect game into the seventh inning. Francisco Del Valle singled home Chad Smith with the game’s only run in the top of seven. Bourassa worked eight innings and surrendered just the two hits while striking out four.


The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, along with their American Hockey League affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, announced that they have extended their partnership with the Norfolk Admirals as the organization’s ECHL affiliate for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Winnipeg Jets draft picks Dmitry Kuzmin (3rd RD, '21) and Thomas Milic (5th RD, '23) played in Norfolk during the 2023-24 season. A total of seven players appeared in contests for both the Moose and Admirals including: Kuzmin, Milic, Thomas Caron, Carson Golder, Simon Kubicek, Mark Liwiski and Oskari Salminen. The Admirals posted a 41-21-6-1 record in 2023-24, their eighth season in the ECHL and advanced to the second round of the 2024 Kelly Cup playoffs.


Canadian forward Natalie Spooner has been named the International Ice Hockey Federation's Female Player of the Year for 2024. Spooner had a league-leading 20 goals and 27 points for Toronto in the inaugural Professional Women's Hockey League season en route to being named the league's MVP and top forward. She also had a goal and four points to help Canada win gold at the women's world hockey championship.
