The Steinbach Pistons lost their pre-season opener 3-2 to the Nighthawks in Niverville. Kennan Reyelts scored the go-ahead goal 7:17 into the third period for the Nighthawks. Owen Arnold and Ty Kennett also scored for Niverville. Nick Mikan and Neo Kiemeney replied for the Pistons. Steinbach netminder Sean Walia stopped 28 of 31 shots. The Pistons next exhibition game is Wednesday against the Winkler Flyers at the T.G. Smith Centre.


Evan Friesen scored the game winning goal with 3:15 remaining in the third period to give Team Dark a 5-3 victory over Team Light in the annual Winnipeg Ice Showcase Game. The Ice will play their first of four exhibition games Friday against the Wheat Kings in Brandon.


David Washington homered and Raul Navarro had three hits and scored five runs as the Winnipeg Goldeyes won their regular season finale 10-1 over the Sioux Falls Canaries. The Fish (53-47) finished in third place and will meet the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks in the American Association's best-of-three West Division semifinal which begins Wednesday at Shaw Park. The first place Kansas City Monarchs selected the fourth-place Lincoln Saltdogs as their first round opponent. The Chicago Dogs face the Milwaukee Milkmen and the Kane County Cougars will take on the Cleburne Railroaders in the East Division semifinals.


The 60th Canadian Senior Men's Golf Championship begins today in Red Deer. Seven Manitobans are in the field including Jay Doyle, Gerald Diamond, Kevin Nicholson, Bill Moslenko, Gordon Kroeker, Garth Collings and 2022 provincial champion Rob Oliphant.
