The Niverville Nighthawks play their third of five pre-season games tonight when they host the Selkirk Steelers. Niverville defeated the Steelers 4-2 Sunday in Selkirk. The Steinbach Pistons will wrap up their exhibition schedule with a home-and-home agianst the Nighthawks this week. The two teams meet Wednesday night in Niverville and Saturday at the T.G. Smith Arena.  


The Brandon Wheat Kings made a pair of roster moves on Monday. The Western Hockey League team reassigned a pair of 2008-born players, forward Isaac Davies and defenseman Giorgos Pantelas. Both players were selected in the 2023 Prospects Draft and were ineligible to be full-time WHL players this season. Pantelas was selected 19th overall and played in both pre-season games against the Regina Pats this past weekend. Davies, the team’s fourth round selection in 2023, played in Fridays game in Regina. Following his reassignment, Pantelas will return to RHA Kelowna and join their U18 team. He played with the U15 program last season. Davies, meanwhile, will try out for the Airdrie U18 AAA team in the Alberta Elite Hockey League. He was part of Airdrie’s U15 AAA team last season.


Nominations for Baseball Manitoba's 2023 Awards honouring the associations best coaches, officials, players, teams, volunteers, and honorary members for their performances and/or contributions to the sport of baseball are closed. Baseball Manitoba's 2023 Awards Banquet will be held Saturday, October 21st at the Holiday Inn Airport West in Winnipeg. 


Curling Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee have announced Cailey Locke of Conception Bay South and Simon Perry of Portugal Cove are Canada’s mixed doubles team that will compete at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games. The two athletes from Newfoundland & Labrador qualified for Team Canada based on their team performance during a best-of-seven qualifying series that took place at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton. Sixteen-year-old Locke and seventeen-year-old Perry defeated Lauren Evason of St. Adolphe and Jaxon Hiebert of Sherwood Park 4-3 in the series, winning the final three games in a row to come back from a 3-1 deficit. The Youth Olympic Games are the world’s largest multi-sport event for high-performance young athletes aged 15-18. Gangwon 2024 will begin on January 19th; end on February 1st and feature 1900 athletes competing in seven sports, 15 disciplines, and a total of 81 events.


Hockey Canada has announced the format and schedule for the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, November 2nd-11th in Charlottetown and Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Six teams will compete in this year’s tournament: Team Canada Red, Team Canada White, Czechia, Finland, Sweden and the United States. Each team will play five preliminary-round games with the quarterfinal matchups set for November 9th and the semifinals the following day. The bronze and gold medal games will take place November 11th.

It's been a busy 2023 golf season at Grand Pines. Ivan Koop, who is the general manager and head golf professional at the 18-hole layout east of Winnipeg, will join Clayton Dreger on Off the Tee which airs Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
