Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Brady Olivera is the West Division nominee for the Canadian Football League's Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian awards. Oliveira led the CFL in rushing with 1,534 yards and 13 touchdowns (nine rushing, four receiving), averaging 85.2 yards per game and posting seven 100-yard contests. He added another 482 receiving yards on 38 receptions. His 2,016 yards from scrimmage (rushing and passing) also led the league. Blue Bombers right tackle Jermacus Hardrick is the West Division nominee for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman and Winnipeg's Mike O'Shea is in the running for Coach of the Year honours. The awards winners will be announced on November 16th during Grey Cup week in Hamilton.


Steinbach Regional is still looking for its first win of the 2023-24 Winnipeg High School Hockey League season. Drake Vermeulen scored the shootout winner as the Lord Selkirk Royals defeated the SRSS 2-1 at the T.G. Smith Arena. Preston Perreault scored the lone goal for the Sabres in regulation. 


Steinbach Pistons forward Grady Hoffman is the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Rookie of the Month for October. The 18-year-old Yorkton native had eight goals and four assists in seven games last month. Hoffman scored twice on the powerplay, once shorthanded and recorded two, 2-goal performances. Niverville Nighthawks defenseman Kaycee Coyle is the Peak Performer of the Month. The 19-year-old Oakbank native sits 6th in overall league scoring and first amongst defenseman. His most impressive game in the month of October came in a four-point outing, where he had two goals and two assists in a 5-2 win over the Dauphin Kings at the MJHL Showcase. 


The Brandon Wheat Kings fell 3-2 to Prince George at Westoba Place. Bauer Dumanski potted the winner for the Cougars with 22.6 seconds left in overtime. Jayden Wiens and Nate Danielson scored in regulation for the Wheat Kings. Brandon netminder Carson Bjarnason made 28 saves. 


The Winnipeg Jets begin a three-game road trip tonight as they face the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights. The Jets, who lost 3-2 in overtime at home to the New York Rangers on Monday, have points in five straight games. 


Kerri Einarson finished with a 3-3 record and Brad Gushue is 4-1and has one round robin game left at the Pan Continental Curling Championships in Kelowna. Both teams have locked up semifinal playoff spots. Gushue also clinched Canada's spot in the 2024 World Men’s Championship, March 30-April 7 in Shaffhausen, Switzerland. 


The Canadian women’s softball team stranded 10 base runners and dropped a 3-2 decision to Puerto Rico at the 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile. Boissevain’s Zoe Hicks drove in both of Team Canada's runs in the bottom of the first inning. Canada finished in second place in Group B with a 2-1 round robin record and will join Puerto Rico, Mexico and the United States in the Super Round. Canada will face Mexico today and the United States on Friday. The top two teams after the Super Round will advance to Saturday’s gold medal game, with the next two playing for bronze. Canadian athletes have won 116 medals including 35 gold, 34 silver and 47 bronze.
