The 2024 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft begins at 11 a.m. The Everett Silvertips have the first overall pick. The Prince Albert Raiders have the second selection and rounding out the top five are the Tri-City Americans, Kelowna Rockets and Edmonton Oil Kings. The Brandon Wheat Kings have the 14th pick in round one. The Wheat Kings selected Colin Grubb of Minot with their first pick, 14th overall, and Ethan Sung of Los Angeles with their second pick, 36th overall in the U.S. Priority Draft. The two players were linemates with Shattuck St. Mary’s 14U AAA program last season, and both players put up over 100 points.


The Turnbull Cup champion Winkler Flyers play their round robin opener today (11 a.m.) against the Superior International Junior Hockey League champion Sioux Lookout Bombers at the 2024 Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario. The Flyers will also face the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champion Melfort Mustangs on Saturday; the host Oakville Blades next Monday and then play their final round robin game in Group B against the Maritime Junior Hockey League champion Miramichi Timberwolves on Tuesday. The top three teams in each pool advance to the playoffs. 


Blayre Turnbull scored twice, Natalie Spooner had a goal and an assist, and Brandon's Kristen Campbell stopped all 26 shots she faced as Toronto shutdown Minnesota 4-0 in game one of the PWHL's best-of-five semifinal. Ste. Anne's Jocelyne Larocque drew an assist on Turnbull's second goal of the night 15:05 into the second period. Game two goes Friday in Toronto.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes play their 2024 American Association season opener tonight in Texas when they begin a six-game series against the Cleburne Railroaders. Right-hander Colton Eastman will get the Opening Day start for the Fish who had two wins and two losses in the pre-season. 


It's day two of Winnipeg Blue Bombers rookie camp. Today's practice session is from 10 a.m -12:15 p.m. at the field beside Winnipeg Soccer Federation South. The Bombers added Global linebacker Fabian Weitz, Global defensive back/linebacker Lucky Ogbevoen, American linebackers Tre Thomas, John Petrishen & Dylan Moses, American defensive backs Bill Hackett & CJ Siegel and American offensive lineman Chidi Okeke to their training camp roster on Wednesday.
