Team Manitoba finished with a 3-2 record at Baseball Canada’s Women’s Invitational in Halifax and Upper Sackville, Nova Scotia. Manitoba lost 17-7 to Saskatchewan in their final round robin game. Team Manitoba then defeated Quebec (2) 9-2 in the 7th place game. Mercedees Gorham of Steinbach and Caitlin Culleton of Vassar are on Team Manitoba’s roster.


Carillon has a 4-0 record at Baseball Manitoba’s Provincial 18U AAA Tier One Championship in Winnipeg. The Sultans defeated St. James 19-3 and Oildome 3-2 Saturday. Carillon will play its final round robin game against South Central. The Winnipeg South Wolves and South Central both have 3-1 records. The top two teams meet Sunday afternoon with the winner advancing to Baseball Canada’s National 18U AAA championship next month in Fort McMurray.


The West Winnipeg A’s meet the Oak River Dodgers and the host Morden Mud Hens face Brandon Young Guns in the semifinals of the Senior AA Provincial Championship.


Softball Manitoba will crown two provincial champions today. The U15 AAA championship is in Brandon and the U17 AAA championship is in Stonewall.


The Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks rallied from a 6-3 sixth inning deficit and beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-6 at Shaw Park. Redhawks designated hitter Cornelle Prime singled home Peter Brookshaw with the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth. Max Murphy drilled his American Association leading 20th home run of the season for the Fish.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American defensive end Tyjuan Garbutt to the practice roster. The Bombers (5-2) who have the bye in week eight, face the B.C. Lions on Thursday, August 3rd at IG Field.
