Trey Sauder scored the go-ahead goal 6:05 into the third period as the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Steinbach Pistons shaded the OCN Blizzard 4-3 at the HyLife Centre in La Broquerie. Leo Chambers, Connor Paronuzzi and Kirk Mullen also scored for the Pistons who evened the best-of-seven semifinal at a game apiece. Marlen Edwards had a pair of goals for the Blizzard. Sam Zagari also scored for OCN. The series now shifts to The Pas for games three and four next week Wednesday and Thursday.

The Brandon Wheat Kings will meet the Saskatoon Blazers in the final of the Telus Cup West Regional Championship at Hockey for All Centre. The Wheat Kings and Blazers finished the preliminary round with 2-1 records. Brandon lost 5-3 to the Thunder Bay Kings on Saturday while the Blazers beat the host Winnipeg Wild 4-2. The Kings and Wild had 1-2 records.

The Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League champion Regina Rebels have qualified for the Esso Cup in Vernon, British Columbia. The Rebels downed the Winnipeg Ice 3-1 at Hockey for All Centre and swept the best-of-three West Regional Championship two games to none.

The Tiger Hills Hockey League champion Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and then held on for a 5-4 victory over the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champion Ste. Anne Aces in game one of Hockey Manitoba’s best-of-three Senior A Championship at Tundra Oil & Gas Place in Virden. Taylor Sanheim had pair of goals for the C-Hawks who scored all three first period goals on the power play. Dustin Fisher, Brad Cole and Brad Bowles had the other Miniota/Elkhorn markers. Brenden Walker scored twice for the Aces and singles went to Caleb Paisley and Jordan DePape. Game two goes Saturday, April 13th in Niverville.

The Winnipeg Jets have reached the 100-point mark. Vladislav Namestnikov had a goal and two assists in Winnipeg’s 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul. Morgan Barron, Alex Iafallo and Kyle Connor with his 31st of the season did the goal scoring for the Jets who received a 25-save performance from Connor Hellebuyck. Winnipeg (47-24-6) has five games left and are two points back of the Colorado Avalanche for second place in the NHL’s Central Division.

Henri Nikkanen scored the shootout winner in round eight as the Manitoba Moose defeated the Chicago Wolves 5-4 at Canada Life Centre. Brad Lambert potted his 20th goal of the season for the Moose.

Canada’s Brad Gushue and Niklas Edin of Sweden will meet in the gold medal game at the 2024 Word Men’s Curling Championship in Schaffhuasen, Switzerland. Gushue downed Bruce Moaut of Scotland 9-4 while Edin downed Joel Retornaz of Italy 5-3 in the semifinals.
