Steinbach Regional will take on the Vincent Massey Trojans at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals at the Provincial AAAA High School varsity girls volleyball championship at Sisler High School in Winnipeg.


Steinbach Regional will meet Garden City at 1:30 p.m. in the girls quarterfinals at the Provincial AAAA Junior Varsity volleyball championship at Dakota Collegiate in Winnipeg. The SRSS boys failed to reach the quarterfinals. The Sabres were eliminated after losing to River East in a play-in game. Gabrielle Roy Les Roy will face the Glenlawn Lions in the boys quarterfinals at 3:15 p.m. at Glenlawn Collegiate.


Niverville boys and girls were eliminated at the Provincial AAA Junior Varsity volleyball championships in Winnipeg while Gabrielle Roy and Green Valley were eliminated at the A/AA championships in Flin Flon and The Pas.


Steinbach Regional lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Garden City Fighting Gophers at the Seven Oaks Sportsplex. Lucas Jolicoeur, Colton Wiebe and Preston Perreault scored in regulation for the Sabres who saw their record fall to 3-6 in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League’s Platinum Promotions Division.


The Steinbach Pistons scored four third period goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Dauphin Kings at the HyLife Centre in La Broquerie. Brayden Berg had a pair of goals for the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions while the rest went to Kirk Mullen, Parker Jasper and Noah Szabo. Brett Tataryn and Brendan Bottem had two goals each as the Niverville Nighthawks beat the Winnipeg Blues 5-1.


Kayden Robertson scored four times and Carson Park had a goal and three helpers as the Macdonald Swarm bounced St. Clements 10-1 in the lone Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League game. Daemon Macdonal had the lone goal for the Gators.


Clint Thomas scored twice and Zachary Skiba made 25 saves as the Beausejour Comets defeated the St. Malo Warriors 5-3 at the SunGro Centre in Beausejour. Jeremie Collette had a pair of goals for the Warriors.


The Brandon Wheat Kings lost 2-0 to Red Deer. The Rebels did their scoring in the final minute of regulation. Ollie Josephson scored at 19:40 of the third period and Kai Uchacz added an empty-netter eight second later. Brandon netminder Ethan Eskit made 29 saves.


Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves as the Winnipeg Jets blanked the Florida Panthers 3-0. Nino Niederreiter, Nikolaj Ehlers and Adam Lowry into an empty net did the goal scoring for the Jets who have won five in a row. The game marked the return of Winnipeg head coach Rick Bowness. Bowness took a leave of absence back on October 23rd to be with his wife Judy who suffered a seizure. The Jets went 9-2-2 under associate coach Scott Arniel.


The Manitoba Moose dropped a 5-1 decision to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Jeff Mallot had the lone goal for the Moose.


Manitoba champions Derrick Anderson and Kara Balshaw were eliminated after losing back-to-back playoff games Friday at the Canadian Curling Club Championships at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg. Anderson fell 7-3 to Dan Sherrard of Alberta and 5-4 to Shea Steele of Nova Scotia. Balshaw lost 6-2 to Abby Burgess of New Brunswick and 6-4 to Tanya Phillips of Nova Scotia.
