Steinbach Regional will meet the St. Paul’s Crusaders and the Garden City Fighting Gophers will face the Westwood Warriors in the semifinals at the Provincial AAAA High School Hockey Championship in Winnipeg. The Sabres had a win and loss in their round robin games Friday. Theoren Koop, Lucas Jolicoeur, Drew Heide, Lucas Thompson and Griffin Plett did the goal scoring as the SRSS defeated the Dauphin Clippers 5-1 in their opener. Mark Plett had the lone for the Sabres in their 2-1 loss to Garden City. The MHSAA rescheduled the semifinals from today to Sunday because of the snowfall warnings.


The Steinbach Pistons lost 2-1 in a shootout to the Swan Valley Stampeders. Langley Kruggel had the lone goal in regulation for the Pistons. Niverville fell 5-1 to OCN. The Nighthawks are still four points ahead of Selkirk in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s East Division. The Steelers lost 2-1 to Virden. Niverville has four games left while Selkirk has three.


The Capital Region Junior Hockey League’s semifinal between the St. Malo Warriors and Arborg Ice Dawgs is now a best-of-three. Tyson Barylski scored the go-ahead goal on the power play with 5:33 left as the Ice Dawgs shaded St. Malo 4-3. Colton Magne, Dayden Collier and Brady Gregoire did the goal scoring for the Warriors.


Mike Rey scored twice and Reed Peters made 40 saves as the Morden Bombers downed the Ste. Anne Aces 4-1 in game one of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League’s best-of-seven final. Tyler Peers and Jory Mullin also scored for the Bombers. Pat Normandeau had the lone goal for the Aces. Game two goes Sunday in Ste. Anne.


Ty Nash scored 3:08 into overtime to lift the Winnipeg Ice past the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-4.


Defenseman Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne and goaltender Kristen Campbell of Brandon were named to Team Canada’s 23-player roster for the 2023 World Women’s Hockey Championship which will be held April 5th-16th in Brampton, Ontario.


Lorette will take on Garden Valley in the final of the Provincial AAA Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Championship at Gray Academy in Winnipeg. The Scorpions defeated Leo Remillard 31-26 in the semifinals. Gabrielle Roy will meet Margaret Barbour of The Pas in third place game at the A/AA Boys championship in Cranberry Portage.


The Providence University College Pilots lost the 7th place game at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Volleyball National Championship in Toronto. The Dragons de Sainte-Anne from Montreal defeated the Pilots 17-25, 25-23, 25-16, 29-27.


Manitoba champions Matt Dunstone, B.J. Neufeld, Colton Lott and Ryan Harnden will meet defending champion Brad Gushue at 6 p.m. in the 1-2 Page Playoff game at the 2023 Brier in London, Ontario. Dunstone defeated Brendan Bottcher of Calgary 5-3 and Gushue bounced Mike McEwen of Ontario 9-3. Bottcher and McEwen play in the 3-4 Page Playoff game at 12 p.m.
