Canada lost 2-0 to host Sweden at the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship Friday in Gothenburg. Hugo Havelid made 21 saves in net for the host country who lead Group A with a 3-0 record. Canada is 2-1 and will play its final preliminary round game Sunday against Germany.

The Lorette Comets and Macdonald Swarm were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Friday night. Matt Ramsay, Trey Dixon, Ben Grift and Martin Waldner scored second period goals as Lorette downed Landmark 4-2. Zane Koop and Jackson Reimer replied for the Blues. Kayden Robertson score twice in regulation and potted the shootout winner as Macdonald shaded Red River 4-3. Austin Spicer scored the other Swarm goal. Bryson Loewen, Carter Hildebrand and Andrew Dyck did the goal scoring for the Mudbugs.

Brenden Walker, Braden Purtill and Caleb Paisley scored two goals each as the Ste. Anne Aces defeated the Portage Islanders 8-1. Jordan DePape and Andrew Blocker also scored for the defending South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champions. Jared Roy had the lone goal for the visiting Islanders.

Caleb Hadland potted the only goal of the shootout to lift the Brandon Wheat Kings past the Saskatoon Blades 3-2 at Westoba Place. Jayden Wiens and Luke Shipley scored in regulation for the Wheat Kings who wrapped up their eight-game homestand with seven wins and one loss.

The Manitoba Moose lost 6-2 to the Texas Stars at Canada Life Centre. Jeff Malott and Ashton Sautner did the goal scoring for the Moose. Fredrik Karlstrom had a hat trick for the Stars.

Canada will face HC Dynamo Pardubice in the semifinals of the Spengler Cup hockey tournament Saturday in Davos, Switzerland. Chris DiDomenico had two goals and an assist as Canada defeated KalPa Kuopio 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
