Steinbach Regional will face the Vincent Massey Trojans today (4 p.m.) in Winnipeg. The Sabres own a 4-2 record and hold down third place in the Winnipeg High School Football League AAAA Conference's South East Division. The Trojans are 3-3 and in fourth place. The Dakota Lancers and Grant Park Pirates share top spot with identical 6-1 records. Braeden Sinclair had five touchdowns as the SRSS junior varsity football team defeated Grant Park 43-41 Wednesday in Winnipeg. 


Team Manitoba lost 7-2 to British Columbia on day two of the 2023 WHL Cup in Red Deer. Jaxon Jacobson of Brandon and Luca Pura of Winnipeg did the goal scoring for Team Manitoba who will play their final round robin game against Saskatchewan today at 5:15 p.m.


The Winnipeg Jets dropped a 5-3 decision to the Vegas Golden Knights Thursday at Canada Life Centre. Jack Eichel potted the go-ahead goal on the power play with 4:36 remaining in the third period as Vegas won its fifth game in a row. Jonathan Marchessault, Alec Martinez, Nicolas Roy and Oakbank's Brett Howden also scored for the Golden Knights who tied the 1985-86 Edmonton Oilers and the 1920-21 Ottawa Senators for the longest winning streak to begin a season by a reigning Stanley Cup champion. Alex Iafallo scored twice for the Jets. Cole Perfetti had Winnipeg's other goal. Nikolaj Ehlers chipped in with two assists. Laurent Brossoit made 22 saves in his season debut for the Jets. Winnipeg outshot Vegas 20-9 in the third period. Vegas goaltender Logan Thompson stopped 36 shots. 


Kerri Einarson, Jennifer Jones and Matt Dunstone have 2-1 records heading into day four of the Hearing Life Tour Challenge in Niagara Falls which is the first Grand Slam event of the season. Kaitlyn Lawes and Reid Carruthers are 1-2 while Kate Cameron is 0-3.


Team Canada finished the round robin with a perfect 8-0 record at the 2023 World Mixed Curling Championship at Aberdeen, Scotland. Skip Felix Asselin, vice-skip Laurie St-Georges, second Émile Asselin and lead Emily Riley of the Glenmore Curling Club in Montreal defeated Gabor Ezsol of Hungary 12-6. Team Canada finished first in Pool B and will play in the quarterfinals today at 12 p.m.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers can clinch first place in the CFL's West Division before playing their final home game of the regular season schedule Saturday night against the Edmonton Elks. The B.C. Lions play their regular season finale tonight against the Calgary Stampeders in Vancouver. The Lions are 12-5 and Winnipeg is 12-4. The Bombers will clinch top spot in the West if B.C. loses to Calgary. The Stampeders are 5-11 and looking to catch Saskatchewan for the third and final playoff spot in the division. The Roughriders are 6-11 and host the East leading Toronto Argonauts Saturday afternoon. The Blue Bombers have won the season series with the Lions and the Stamps took the season series from the Riders.
