La Broquerie is buzzing today with a big event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of La Broquerie Habs hockey.

Denise Turenne says it’s a thrill to have the Montreal Canadiens Alumni hockey teams take to the ice alongside local hockey alumni at the HyLife Centre.

“We are completely honoured and super excited about the event. We are looking forward to seeing people’s faces and all the alumni, the La Broquerie Habs alumni, watch this game.

Turenne says it is great to celebrate this milestone in La Broquerie with special events.

“There’s a beautification project that was made in the HyLife Centre, showcasing all the 75 years that La Broquerie has had, whether it be championships or the original team. It's something to really come and take a look at. Brand new, added to the trophy case in the lobby.”

Turenne hopes there will be a few more events this year to celebrate this anniversary.

Fundraisers have been successful in paying for celebration events and helping the sports club as well as minor hockey.

Turenne says it is important to have successful hockey programs for all ages and would love to see the local program continue to grow.

“We have minor hockey from U7 to U18 right now. Growing up, I always saw a junior team as well as senior team and so I would love for the next, I don't know, 10 to 15 years, that we could reestablish those programs. My son, who's also in the U18 group, will no longer have anywhere to play once that team has done this year. So, I would love to see more groups added throughout the junior and senior team.”
