Mobile advertising signs in ditches between Steinbach and Winnipeg will be the first targeted for removal by Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation.

The Department's assessment has found Highways #12 and #1 between Steinbach and Winnipeg have the highest number of signs and largest traffic volumes.  Bob Kurylko is the director of traffic engineering.  He says they'll be phoning the sign owners in the next week or 2, giving them 7 days to remove the signs or have the job done for them by a private contractor.
Kurylko says it's primarily a safety issue for vehicles that run off the road and for snowmobilers.  He adds the signs are also ugly and clutter up sightlines for drivers.
