The Rural Municipality of Ste Anne Council concluded to reduce a speed limit on Wednesday.

“It’s not a new street, but it’s a fairly developed street now due to quite a bit of land being subdivided,” says Reeve Paul Saindon of the two-mile stretch along 41 E Road just north of Highway 1.

“We’re going to be putting up signs and possibly children playing warning signs,” says Saindon. The Mayor also mentions Council is working toward a bylaw.

“It will be enforced by our system in place and there will be tickets issued, just like the RCMP on the highway,” explains Saindon of when the bylaw has passed. “We’re not looking to issue tickets,” he assures, “we’re just trying to make it safer for some of those densely populated areas.”

Saindon estimates the area now has at least 50 homes in the developing area and attributes the growth to Council’s decision.

“That can contribute to a fair bit of people traffic, as well as vehicle traffic. So, slowing down is a cautious thing to do there.”
