The Local Urban District of Lorette just got bigger.

Armand Poirier is Mayor for the Rural Municipality of Tache. He says Tache put in a request to expand the borders of the LUD. Just recently, Andrew Smith, Minister of Municipal Relations for Manitoba approved that request.

According to Poirier, the LUD will grow by more than 300 acres to the west. This land sits between the Seine River and Highway 207, running from about Laramee Drive to Fairway Drive.

"This request had been put in because of all the recent development," explains Poirier. "It was the long-term intent of the town and the municipality to go ahead with this plan."

Poirier refers to that as a busy piece of land. He notes there is a lot of development going on there with several new homes going up and a lot of side-by-sides.

"Before long it will be covered with homes," he adds.

Poirier explains that what this means for that part of town is those residences will now benefit from all of the regular services being offered to the rest of the LUD of Lorette. This includes snow clearing, garbage and recycling pickup as well as street maintenance.

"All the services that the rest of the town of Lorette was enjoying," he says. "Now it's going to be expanded to the residents that live in that new development area."

Poirier adds this expansion is another sign of growth in Tache.

"Unrelenting growth," he says. "It's not stopping anytime soon from all appearances. And we'll see where it's going to take us."
