RCMP have released details from Tuesday morning's takedown in Mitchell.

As part of an ongoing investigation, Steinbach RCMP along with the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, attended a residence along Kehler Drive.

Officers were in the process of executing a warrant to enter a residence to arrest a wanted 32-year-old male, when the male exited the residence, got into a vehicle, and attempted to drive off. Officers blocked the suspect in; however, police say the male refused to stop and rammed a police vehicle. His vehicle became inoperable, and he was subsequently arrested.

RCMP say no one was injured during the incident.

The vehicle used by the suspect was confirmed to be stolen.

Thirty-two-year-old Steven Wiebe has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply. He was also wanted on 26 other outstanding charges.

He was remanded into custody.

RCMP say Wiebe was involved in an altercation with police earlier this month in Steinbach. After ramming a stolen car into the Giant Tiger building, police say he also hit a civilian car and an RCMP officer before taking off in a stolen vehicle.

The officer was treated and released from hospital.
