Some residents on Reimer Avenue in Steinbach are upset at city council.
Spokesperson Wayne Neufeld says they oppose the city's plan to expand the Central Business District along Reimer, north of Elmdale Street.  He adds they are at a loss to understand why council would want to wreck this residential pearl by allowing commercial development.  But Mayor Chris Goertzen explains the city's development plan has, since 1992, pegged this area for commercial development.  He adds it's important the Central Business District have room to grow if the city's core area is to remain strong.  Council then gave 2nd reading approval to rezone 314 Reimer to commercial.  G & E Homes wants to build its new office there.  But because of the opposition, the matter will now go before a Municipal Board Hearing before council can consider 3rd and final reading.
