If you have driven through Mitchell in recent days, you may have noticed Welcome signs that have gone up along Highway 52.

Brad Kehler is Chair of the Local Urban District committee of Mitchell. He says these signs at the east and west ends of the community are the result of a project that first started in the fall of 2016.

Kehler notes nearly four years ago, the LUD committee began the process, which included getting consent from adjacent landowners and submitting the plans to Manitoba Infrastructure. Final approval was granted this June and Kehler says crews immediately went to work.

The project is not yet complete as landscaping around the signs will be done in late fall. However, what you see today is an oak leaf design, which Kehler says symbolizes a friendly community that embraces the nature of the leaf element found throughout Mitchell. The committee was intentional in choosing a blue colour, which Kehler says has long represented the community in recreational sports.

According to Kehler, feedback from residents has been highly favourable.

Final costs are not yet available.
