La Broquerie Council Wednesday morning approved a new road and subdivision in Marchand, but with an unusual condition: a partition fence is to be built between the homes already present and the new ones yet to be constructed.

Johnny Drive, named after the developer, Johnny Loewen, will be an 8 lot subdivision stemming from Park Lane East. Having grown accustomed to living in wide-open space, Reeve Lewis Weiss says a few longtime homeowners in the region took issue with the proposed build.

“There were four people concerned about privacy with that many possible new neighbors coming in,” he details, “so they asked if a fence could be set up between their property and the subdivision.”

After a brief discussion, Council decided to allow the subdivision on the condition that an 850-foot long fence is erected alongside the first four and a half proposed lots.

Weiss says adding the fence to the resolution was no big deal but, to his knowledge, it is the first time a resident outside of the LUD of La Broquerie has requested that such measures be taken.

The new subdivision will stem from Park Road.
