Steinbach Community Christmas does not have enough toys to meet this year's demand.

Spokesperson Roger Blatz says 1,300 toys will be going out with hampers in Steinbach and Grunthal. But Blatz says they still need about 250 more to meet that target.

Blatz says they are short on toys for all ages. If not enough toys come in, then money will be taken from their grocery fund in order to purchase more. He notes the number of toys being handed out this year is higher because of larger families signed up for hampers.

"Right now we might be in a little bit of a panic for toys," says Blatz. "I know that there are people out there that are going to come through, they always do."

Anyone wanting to make a toy or cash donation should drop it off at South East Helping Hands on Main Street. Blatz says if you are making a cash donation, make sure your name is on the envelope and you will receive a tax receipt. If the doors are locked, donations can be slipped into the lock box in the door. Blatz says though they will accept cash donations for toys, they would sooner have people drop off toys, saving Community Christmas volunteers from having to go out shopping.

Hampers are being delivered December 14, 16 and 20.
