The Mayor of Steinbach says it's been decades since so many cabinet ministers were in Steinbach at the same time. Premier Greg Selinger and many cabinet ministers were in Steinbach Wednesday to meet with the Mayor, take in the Clearspring Middle School grand opening and tour the Arts Centre, among other things.

"It's been great to have them here," notes Chris Goertzen. "We're a growing city and we want them to experience and see all that growth that's going on." Goertzen adds it gave him a chance to tell the city's story of great success but also address some of the challenges.

"We have a tremendous need for personal care home beds for seniors as well as improvements to highway intersections," says Goertzen. He notes the growing region has seen increased traffic on provincial highways 12 and 52 within Steinbach, intensifying safety concerns.

As for seniors housing, he says it's been years since personal care home beds were added in Steinbach.

"We've asked them to work with us to solve these problems," he says.

Goertzen also identified the need for recreation and cultural facilities.

"The visit is an opportunity to show firsthand, the growth and challenges we face and the important role the provincial government can play to help improve quality of life for our citizens," notes Goertzen.
