Denton Mateychuk, a Dominion City native, has returned to Moose Jaw after playing a few preseason games with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Moose Jaw Warriors’ captain was reassigned to the Western Hockey League by the Blue Jackets as they set their opening night roster on Monday.

Mateychuk appeared in four preseason games with Columbus, who selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He finished the preseason with three assists.

Last season, Mateychuk posted eight goals and a career-high 65 points in 63 games with the Warriors.

Matcheychuk enters this season sitting seventh all-time in Warriors’ history for points by a defenseman with 140. Nathan Paetsch is the all-time leader with 212.

In Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Regina Pats, Mateychuck picked up one assist.
