Mennonite wall clocks from the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach are now on display at the Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg.
Andrea Klassen is the senior curator of M.H.V. and she tells us how this partnership came about.
“In 2018, we partnered with the Kroeger Clock Heritage Foundation to create and host an exhibit on Mennonite wall clocks. So, we filled the Gerhard Ens gallery at the museum with over 30 clocks at that time. We partnered with them, again, this summer and hosted an exhibit at Gallery in the Park in Altona, kind of a rejigged version, a bit smaller than that one of that 2018 exhibit. This one is called Keeping Time, The Art and Heritage of Mennonite Clocks.”
That was when the Manitoba Museum approached M.H.V. to see if there would be a possibility of also showing the clock exhibit. Klassen says it is exciting to partner with other museums.
The Manitoba Museum is hosting this clock exhibit until February 25th.
“They'll be clocks from M.H.V.’s collection and also community collections through the Kroeger Clock Heritage Foundation. It's a really unique opportunity for us to be getting outside the museum, showcasing our collection and showcasing very unique artifacts and what this artifact can tell us about Mennonite history, about migration, about the history of material culture and what that can tell us. So, we're really excited about that.”
