Steinbach city council has decided not to get involved in the aesthetic look of private buildings.
The issue surfaced when a developer applied for a zoning change to transform a church into apartments.  The building is located at the corner of Reimer Avenue and Brandt Street.  Mayor Chris Goertzen remains concerned about the appearance of the structure but councillor Michael Zwaagstra urged council not to establish a trend by interfering in aesthetics.  He notes the property meets all the requirements for rezoning and there were no objections from the neighbors.  Council voted 3-1 to approve the rezoning with Mayor Chris Goertzen casting the dissenting vote.
