Steinbach’s Main Street is down to one lane in both directions as road construction gets underway.

According to a provincial spokesperson “Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is completing concrete pavement repairs in Steinbach on Provincial Trunk Highway 52 or Main Street, from Kroeker Avenue to PTH 12 in both the westbound and eastbound lanes.”

Construction crews could be seen rolling in Monday morning with single lane closures taking place shortly afterward. The province says work has already begun.

“Construction is expected to be completed by the end of June. The cost of the project is estimated to be $450,000.”

We received a number of reports from drivers noting traffic was severely backed up during the late afternoon commute on Monday as a result of the lane closures.

In addition to lane closures on Main Street, the crossing at Reimer Avenue is also closed to traffic as a result of this project.
