Lane closures at the intersection of Highway 12 and Loewen Boulevard are expected on Wednesday and Thursday as the city conducts soil condition testing.

In a press release, the city says testing should take place between 9 A.M. and 3 P.M. on both days.

This condition testing will be completed by an engineering firm and consists of drilling small boreholes to sample the soil at various places in and around the intersection. Utilities in the area will also be located at this time.

This work is being done in preparation for the renewal project planned for the Loewen Boulevard and Highway 12 intersection. The city has received $4.5M in grant funding to complete the project, which is estimated at a total cost of $8.2M and part of the city’s Capital Works Plan.

City officials say the intersection will remain open however lane closures are likely as well as some disruption to traffic flow.

Motorists are asked to slow down, use caution, and pay attention to all posted signs in the area.
