The spirits of the staff at both Landmark Elementary School and Landmark Collegiate were lifted last week by an act of unexpected generosity.

Recognizing the extraordinary stress the school system has been under during the COVID-19 pandemic, a local parent, Danielle Wollmann, took to social media to galvanize her community into sponsoring a special lunch for all staff at both schools.

“I am so thankful for our teachers for the way that they cared for our students through so many difficult situations since this pandemic started and I just wanted to show some appreciation.”

Shortly after posting her thoughts, Wollmann received a response.

“My inbox was flooded for the next two days! I was really encouraged by the response from the community.”

Together, the group of local parents and residents decided to surprise the school staff with a modest lunchtime feast. Compiling their spending power, they purchased pitas, muffins, flowers, and gifts for the unsuspecting educators. Wollmann says the gesture was well received.

“Many people told me they wanted to give me a hug, but of course they can’t,” she laughs. “They were really thankful to know that their community is behind them and that we see the work that they are doing.”

Wollmann herself is proud that the people of her community share her respect for teachers, EAs, and custodians and were willing to participate in such a practical way of saying thanks.
