The Rural Municipality of La Broquerie has six spots for councillors and Fernand Piché is after one of those spots.

Civic elections are coming up next month and Piché is throwing his hat in the ring to represent Ward 2.

Born and raised in La Broquerie, Piché says community involvement has always been a big part of his life.

“I’m a business owner in town here, the Shell La Broquerie here, Le Dépanneur, for the past 31 years and counting,” he says. “I’m the Grand Knight of our local Knights of Columbus chapter. I’ve been involved in hockey quite a bit, I played for the Habs, Senior Habs, for 18 years. I coached for 20 years or so in minor hockey.”

Piché says, if elected, he wants to make sure the lagoon has capacity for future needs.

“Overall, that’s my number one priority, getting that settled,” he says. “And then another issue is always the rural roads, which have to be maintained and upgraded and that's a high priority on my list also.”

The R.M. of La Broquerie is split into only two wards with each ward represented by three councillors.

Voters head to the polls on October 26th.
