Investigators believe they now know the location of where Sunday's devastating fire broke out in downtown Steinbach.
The fire broke out mid-afternoon in a strip mall off Main Street. The mall, located at the Friesen Avenue intersection, was home to Janzen's Paint and Decorating, Best West Pet Foods, H & R Block, Investia Financial Services, Liberty Counselling Centre and Steinbach's Flooring Canada. The building is considered a total loss.
According to Steinbach RCMP, it appears the fire started in the warehouse at Janzen's Paint and Decorating.
As of Monday morning, firefighters continue to work on putting out the fire. Once that is complete, the Office of the Fire Commissioner will investigate.
RCMP remind residents in downtown Steinbach that there is still toxic smoke in the air and to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Police say perimeters were set up Sunday to prevent onlookers from getting too close to the scene.
