Diners at Blatz B-stro in Steinbach witnessed a car drive through the front window on Thursday.

Steinbach RCMP Constable Dennis Redikop says they were called to the scene at around noon. Officers arrived to find the front window smashed and an injured patron. Redikop says an adult female who was inside the restaurant at the time of the crash, was transported to hospital as a precaution, with minor cuts.

"The driver thought that they hit the brakes," says Redikop. "But in fact, hit the gas pedal."

He explains it is being investigated as a possible impaired driving incident. According to Redikop, the driver, in their late 60s has previous impaired driving charges and police are awaiting the results from a breathalyzer.

The driver has been served a 15-day driver's license suspension notice, due to the impaired investigation.

Police are also considering laying charges of careless operation of a motor vehicle.

According to Redikop, the driver and lone occupant was not injured.
