The house at 310 Hanover Street in Steinbach will be moved to 48 Acres Drive to be used as a training facility for the Steinbach Fire Department.

Councillor Susan Penner says this is good news on two fronts.

“It is making way for the new recreation centre we are building downtown. This is a house on one of those lots we bought to make room. The other thing it is good for is obviously our fire department to train on. I think it is also important to note that this is not a house that will be used with live fire exercises, it is not a one-time use but it is something that they will be able to use for ongoing training.”

310 Hanover was purchased by the city last May.

very helpful for them to have a place where they can be able to practice and develop their skills further.”

Mayor Earl Funk notes it would be a shame to just tear down the house.

“I think this is a great idea, it’s a great use for a building that is still in pretty good shape. It was built with many rooms so it works well with confinement situations and I think it is going to give a lot of great scenarios for our firefighters to be trained on.”
