A man from Hanover was buried alive while doing construction work in the RM of Springfield yesterday afternoon.

At 1:30 PM, police responded to a report of a trapped construction worker at a job site on Hillside Road, near Birds Hill Provincial Park.

According to RCMP, workers were digging a large trench when the walls collapsed, trapping one individual inside.

Additional emergency personnel, including the Springfield Fire Department and a specialized team with the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service, were immediately called to the scene and spent several hours attempting to rescue the worker.

Police say the worker's body was finally found at 9:30 AM this morning. The 39-year-old male was pronounced dead on scene.
